Weimar Weekend 2021
For its 2021 edition, the Weimar Weekend took place in a hybrid format. At the end of July, EMA-DOM held two online events during the week and a series of in-person activities during one weekend in Mainz.
On the 21st July, our team organised a “European Virtual Career Tour”. Five alumni of the Europa Master presented their career paths, gave tips and answered questions for an hour and a half. The next day, EMA-DOM held a great “European Pub Quiz”, where several teams competed against each other. Both events were set up to foster networking and mutual help among students and alumni of the Europa Master.
On Friday, 23rd July, a group composed of students and alumni met on the JGU Campus to head into the weekend with a relaxed evening. Sitting together and enjoying the company, we were able to get to know each other – some of us had only met digitally before - this was the case for a part of the board!
On Saturday afternoon, the whole group met to do a Wine Tasting in the vineyards of Laubenheim. While getting a bit wet on the way there, the sun came out later and we were rewarded with great weather, a beautiful view over the Rhine (to Frankfurt), interesting explanations about wine growing and of course, good wine. Filled with laughter, the atmosphere was cheerful, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves very much.
A BBQ was planned for the evening to take place in a private garden, unfortunately, the weather was announced to be stormy and rainy, therefore it was spontaneously decided to go to a restaurant instead and enjoy the rest of the evening there. It was still very nice!
On Sunday, a farewell brunch was planned, which took place in a Café in the Neustadt. Many participants joined and the group could recap the last days while eating and drinking in the sun.
We are very happy that many students from the 7th and 8th generation as well as alumni were able to join us in Mainz to start socializing again, after not being able to meet at all in person during the past year! We look forward to the next edition of the Weimar Weekend and welcome your suggestions for improvement.
