Hey, I am Jana from France and I would like to give some insights from our start in Mainz: I arrived in the city a week before the semester. First, I visited the city with my parents because my dad really wanted to see the Rhein. With the beginning of spring, the city looked so lively, which made it really nice. Then with Francesca and Kris, we did a city tour and stopped at the Kupferbergterrassen, from where we could see the city, it was very pretty! I like the red stone used for most of the buildings. It makes the city authentic. In the beginning we also did a Rally around the city organized by EMA-DOM and got invited for some drinks! Thanks to this, I could further explore and learn some fun facts about the city.
The campus is enormous, at first, I had the impression to be on an American campus. With the botanical garden not so far, it will be nice to study there. I enjoy the courses and how the classes are made, because people can debate in class which is not very common in France, it makes the class active and interesting.
Also, in the first week back at Uni we celebrated the Semesteröffnungsfete. It was actually quite a cultural shock to have a party and to drink beer on the campus! But it was very fun and a nice way to celebrate the beginning of the semester.
I’m really looking forward to spend the semester in Mainz with everyone and to visit Germany!
