After a few weeks of settling in in Mainz the 11th generation embarked on a canoeing trip together last weekend! On Saturday ten of us met up at Mainz main station and made our way by train and bus to the Hessian village of Runkel. Despite the big clouds in the sky, it was a dry morning. At the riverbank of the Lahn River, we got a short introduction on how to use a paddle, put on our life jackets, and off we went. In pairs we figured out how to steer the canoes and conquered the river. Unfortunately, after an hour on the water rain started pouring down on us. We managed to draw the boats ashore and had a break under a gazebo. Nevertheless, the rain did not stop and we had to move on after a while. A real adventure! After 10 kilometers of canoeing, we reached Limburg and so did the sun, allowing some of us to go for a swim. As a treat we warmed up with hot chocolate and some food in a cozy restaurant. Afterwards, we explored the old town and visited the cathedral of Limburg before boarding the train back to good old Mainz.
Thank you to the UFA/DFH which partly funded the trip!
